Alesis Andromeda A6 with Modded Case

Two pics of an Andromeda A6 with titled control panel sent my way via Xavier. Note this one is different than the Alesis Aurora.

"The owner found a picture on the internet and wanted to modify his Andromeda to look like the picture. He had probably stumbled upon a pic of the Aurora. He said that the modification was both very easy and very cheap to perform, using a 1mm thick aluminium sheet and pieces of oak wood. Some other guys thought that it might have been a lot of work to have all the connection separated from the main panel but the owner explained that the Andromeda is indeed split already. When you crack the lid open, connections are at the bottom and all that was needed is to have pieces of aluminium to have the front panel stay at the correct angle, a 10x15mm square section wood stick to fit between the keyboard and the front panel and an angled 1mm aluminium sheet to fill the gap at the back. No need to have the logos redone at the back. Then, the wooden ends were prepared, varnished and attached to the synth."

  2. it's beyond FUGLY... why would anyone do such a monstrous mod to such a beautiful synth!!! At least if it were executed like Moog Little Phatty, where you have a side Y pattern... This is just horrendous, I can't imagine anyone thinking it is attractive.

That's my cold, hard $0.02 - and you can take it to the bank!

  3. hmm, i do see the potential, though. maybe if the wood was darker or more exotic looking. i'm not sure.

  4. @Dex:

    good you point that out:
the guy actually expressed regrets that he had not chosen a darker shade of varnish.

maybe it makes it easier to play?

i know my minimoog is no fun with the panel flat.

however, that said, i would like to see someone make a flip-top Andromeda.

  8. Come on, the A6 isn't flat.

But yes, you could set up a LP "Y" configuration if you wanted. The front panel/top metalwork are connected to the bottom by ribbon cables and a couple of other cords, which could be replaced by longer versions. The main digital board and input/output boards are screwed to the bottom half of the metalwork.

You could even make one that tilts like the Minimoog.

I have one or two non-production front panels left for sale if anyone wants to be different. And a lot of different knob cap colors (white, blue, maybe enough medium grey to make a set of each).

I wish that we could have used wood for the end caps but it would have raised the price (the built-in dig effects were only a couple dollars to add considering there was a CPU to run it from already there).

  9. @Ghostdog:

can you send your email address to Matrix and ask him to forward that to me?
For spamming reason, I do not want to leave my email address publicly.
Thanks for your understanding, I will try to hook you up with the guy who did that mod.
    Regards,
    Xavier

  12. Hi,

I'm the guy in question !
I've done this monstrous mod to this beautiful synth...
Now, I can read the Display and see the panel, really fun and cool to use in this position.
Really nice between my Minimoog and my Dotcom QSS66...

You don't have to replace any cables inside, the ribbon cable is enough longer.
I think it would be really difficult to do a flip flop panel...

Ghostdog, If you need some pictures let me know.

Uggh this happened years ago... Someone must still be around!!!!
