PEARL DRUM-X is early programmable analog electronic drums module in 80's internal memory contains 8 kits each 5 pads=total 40sounds! each kit has SNARE, BASS, TOM1, TOM2, TOM3 parameter has PITCH,BEND,OSC/NOISE,OVERTONE,ATTACK,FILTER,DECAY,LEVEL IN&OUT is 5 pad trigger in,5 separate out and mix out, stereo line in,kit select in, ext trigger in this one has no MIDI(it came from before MIDI era), so you need drum pad with trigger or drum machine that has trigger out(TR-606,TR-808 etc..)

DRUM-X has many tweakable parameters so it's very easy to create various unique sounds DRUM-X's sound character is very fat & warm analog synth sound! sound character is totally different from SIMMONS's sound(I feel more soft character) I specially recommend it's noisy dark tone character"

  1. I'm Pretty sure this is what Luke Vibert used on the "Plug" records. Most excellent.

  2. Sorry, He used another Pearl drum module called the "Syncussion" which has been posted on this site before.

Here is a quote of him talking about it:

The bass on that is from this hilarious box called a Pearl Syncussion that I still use most of the time for bass and that I used for all my Plug bass lines. It's supposed to be some kind of reggae drum, triggered with pads — dooh! dooh! — but you can program and detune it to do mental, sharp kick drums and basses. There's one waveform that's just amazing: a 909 type of kick that does similar bass things as the TB-303. I have all of the Roland XOX units — 101, 202, 303, 505, 525, 606, 626, 707, 727, 808, 909, and quite a few pieces of old analog kit as well — Jem, Korg, Kat, Space Echo. I rarely pull them out except when I'm looking for a particular drum or bass sound, but now I've got quite a lot of the hits backed up on DAT — at least the ones I use most regularly, like those low frequencies off the Syncussion.

  3. I bought this exact unit. It's awesome. It's kicks are so full, beautiful and ridiculous.
