TB303 & TT303 Bass Bot Video Comparisons

Published on Dec 1, 2012 by Bonnline

"TB & TT comparison. OK what can I say? Well the TT is value for money v the price of a TB. If you own a TB you will notice the slight differences but man that TT is impressive. The bass end blows the TB away but the TB still has those strange idiosyncrasies that that TT just can't quite replicate albeit it does come very close - only a TB owner will notice this. The TT certainly sends the x0xb0x to third place! Build quality is just like a new original, the tunning-accent pots are higher thus easier to turn but may feel a little wobbly for it!! I think TB owners will be shocked at how good it is = I was!. The tunes you hear are both identical but my TB double fires (sticky button syndrome!)... aha! but this is part of the TBs power - you get a different tune to what you had originally planned. The TB303 is the master but he has shown the TT the way ;-)"

TB303 & TT303 with mxr distortion compared

"I've supplied two seperate vids so you can open them both together and compare how they do. The same pot settings and sequence have been used on both units. I turn the Cutt-off and Reso on both, nothing else."

TB303 & TT303 More

"Each unit is connected to the distortion that suits it best. Same sequence same pot turns. TB wins - TT close second. The TB bass thump is better than I remeber!"

TT303 with mxr

"This is the second vid with the TT303 hooked up to the mxr. You can compare this with the TB303 vid. The TB always wins but it's closer than I would like ;-)"

  1. I have to question the opinion of anyone that does a comparison test and is using the cam's mic for audio.

  3. you can still tell a difference in sound even through the cam mic, listen when it's at high resonance and the way that the sweep happens between the 2, hello btw tim, i do feel that you bring up a great point though and it is always a bit of a letdown with online audio comparisons when they choose to use a crappy form of recording, if they guy has nice equipment like that one would assume that guy also has a halfway decent soundcard that could easily outshine the cam mic

man copying the form factor so closely, i wonder if roland will care? i wonder if a cease and desist has or will be issued?

it seems to do a far better job than roland's jupiter 80 and it's tb 303 section on the jupiter synth legends collection they are pushing right now like this --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHo5hyzIEHg c'mon roland you don't even tweak the filter or resonance or accents or anything, does roland really think that is the way that tb 303s are used?! the more close sounding clones the better, it is clear that roland isn't wanting to do much to help push the acid cause imho ;)

  4. Hey Nate! Yea, I'm always baffled when I see thousands of dollars worth of gear and they didn't invest in a method to record a line-in. YouTube is full of examples like that. You're right though, you can at least get an idea of the different characteristics.

I was so close to impulse buying one the day Matrix announced it, just to get one before Roland shuts them down!

This train of thought has led me now to seriously considering getting a x0xb0x for about half the price. I do love the TT-303's more authentic form factor, but there are so many x0xb0x mods! I feel I'd be able to wrangle a wider variety of sounds out of one. I've been listening to a lot of Darkpsy lately, and having the extra range would be helpful there.
