video upload by Frap Tools

"The insert module is out
Shipping right now!

[check with dealers on the right]

We're particularly excited about this module because it's the first one that we design based on YOUR suggestions, especially through our Discord server. If you want to join, smash this link here!

The insert module allows you to connect stereo effects to your CGM setup, either by inserting them between two points of the internal summing bus or by placing them in parallel, as in a rudimentary stereo send-and-return.

It consists of two couples of outputs and inputs with dedicated gain switches. The first O/I stereo couple is the insert circuit, while the second is the parallel circuit.

The Insert module can be used:

between a group and a master;
between a group and a group;
between a channel and a group;
between a channel and a channel;
between a channel and a master (without a group).

The Insert module ships with two Insert cables compatible with every member of the CGM family, including the discontinued ones."

What is sampler? | introduction of SnapBeat, the simple lo-fi sampler

video upload by SnapBeat official

"Hi, this video explains about what is a sampler for electric music newbie like me. You can think of SnapBeat as merely eight voice recorders by which you can record any sounds and playback the sounds with the eight pads. SnapBeat is a device called sampler in electric music field. And SnapBeat can be any music instruments such as a piano or drums by sampling these instruments sounds.

For newbies who are interested in DIY music production, I think sampler is good choice because you don't have to many expensive instruments other than it. Now you can find tons of sounds on Youtube or Spotify. So, You can sample any sounds from these various music sources.

You can buy SnapBeat on Tindie.

Wavetable Synthesis: Basic Mix, Formant, and VOSIM Wavetables. New in KRC Mathwaves

video upload by Keith Crosley

"Exploring new wavetables in KRC Mathwaves including waveforms/wavetables that mix the basic subtractive synthesis waveforms in interesting ways, growly/vocal formant wavetables (fun for dubstep, color bass, etc.), and even MOAR formanty wavetables created with the classic VOSIM (VOcal SIMulator) technique. I’m sure I drop a nifty synth programming tip or two along the way! It’s a full hour of wavetables-a-fo-go… So lets get wiggly with it!

Taiga Keyboard // Every bit's a little bit more

video upload by Starsky Carr

"MORE TAIGA!! A deep dive demo and review of the @pittsburghmodular Taiga Keyz. It's got 3 oscillators, each with a little bit more than most, a filter AND a low pass gate, a multi-mode configurable mixer, 3 LFOs, 2 ADSRs plus extra envelope shapes..

Stuff I forgot to demo.. MIDI CCs to CV - so you can use mod options in your DAW - like a MIDI LFO to control the synth. ... but I did that in my last demo of the original eurorack version!

MJ’s Thriller Minimoog Marimba (Synth Breakdown)

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"This video makes a very important point about what you need to consider when you want to make a "great" sound. The Minimoog Marimba sound occurs during the Outro of "Thriller" which is loaded with complex sounds that are both melodic, sustaining and building. The song at this point hardly needs another element. You'll notice that I chose to make a very simple and relatively thin sound. It establishes some personality from its percussive and resonance aspects but most of its value comes from the rhythm and performance of the part. I'm telling you this because when you want to make a great sound the most important questions to ask are "Who, What, When Where and How". Who is playing it (a person or MIDI), what is happening at the same time (orchestration), When does it enter (what part of the beat), Where does it happen in the dramatic flow and How will the listener be affected by it? After thinking about the answers to these questions I realized that a great sound here needed to be very simple and not too thick. When you hear the Minimoog marimba in the context of the song you'll notice that it stays out of the way of the other sounds frequencies. Every sound is a puzzle piece that needs to fit with the other pieces. This is the process I follow when making any sound! "

PATCH EXPERIMENT / a few ways to create random gates that are on the grid

video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design

"I always call them 'random gates' in my videos - but what I'm in almost all cases mean are just clocks with a probability setting of less than 100%. There's specialized modules that do the work for you, but with some clever patching you can create them yourself from some kind of clock and a chaotic or random voltage.

In this video I explore how to use ORBIT 3 and the AND logic output of COMPARE 2 to create on grid randomness. I have a go at using STEP 8 for the same goal as well.

PS: in some cases you can use a vca as a boolean logic AND gate, so if you don't have a COMPARE 2 you should still be able to figure out how to use the first technique in the video."

Up & Down | Make Noise

video upload by MAKEN0ISE

"Let's start getting a little more systematic with escape patch ideas.

Let’s start with an assumption, let’s say a hypothesis actually, that this is a subterranean place, a 'netherworld.'

Let’s make a new escape patch. Let’s base it on the idea of 'going up and down.'

3 increasingly weird ways to program a TR-606 module (but keep it satisfying)

video upload by mylarmelodies

"This is a blend of: A 606 clone eurorack module demo (the LPZW/Tubbutec 6m0d6), and a tutorial - laced with tips and tricks - exploring three increasingly weird ways to trigger and modulate (drum) modules in general - using Gate & CV, Trigger Riot, and sneaky tricks in Ableton Live & MIDI. The overall theme is: Keeping the results 'musical' and satisfying.

We'll also make a generative sequencer with the Mutable instruments stages and use it to control the excellent Doepfer A-111-6. We'll drive it with the Music Thing Mini Drive. We'll turn the Tiptop Audio Trigger Riot into a modulation sequencer. We'll then use Ableton Live and we'll absolutely smash this thing to bits with some simple but very interesting methods to get completely wild patterns, that would take a LOT of modules to do in analog-land.

Happy days."

Dual Octatrack Madness: Granular Sampling Is Wild

video upload by EZBOT

"What's better than one Octatrack? Two, of course. In today's live stream we use my battery powered Octatrack run the Octacosm project which will be processing the OP-1 Field. The Octacosm is an Octatrack Template that turns the Octatrack into a granular effects processor which is great for processing synthesizers. We will be sampling into the Digitakt and making some music from scratch.

Make the most of LFOs & Ring Modulation // with the cLFO from AtoVproject

video upload by DivKid

"Here we have the cLFO (complex low frequency oscillator) from AtoVproject and while making this a demo of the module I also wanted to make a tutorial for making the most of LFOs and Ring Modulation in a modular system. We've got patches showing LFO uses, multiple modulation destinations, ring modulating LFOs, ring mod as a VCA, ring mod for massive bass sounds ... give the patches a go!"

Volume & Panning | Schlappy Patching with Stazma

video upload by

"Episode 7 for Schlappy Patching!
Today we talk volume. Might seem boring but changing the volume of a sound over time result in dynamic, and it is actualy quite awesome! Also if you can change the level of something on one side of the stereo field, you get "panning" effect, without the need of a pan pot on a stereo mixer (you need two VCAs instead). Anyway we'll explore things volume related, using a drum mahcine and some sounds generated by the Three Body, mostly using Nibbler for stepped modulations.

Have fun watching!"

Kaivo: Gate Module Overview

video upload by Madrona Labs

"Kaivo is a software instrument combining two powerful synthesis techniques (physical modeling and granular synthesis) in an easy-to-use semi-modular package. It’s laid out a bit like an acoustic instrument; the GRANULATOR module acts like the player’s touch, exciting one or more tuned objects (here, the RESONATOR module, based on physical models of resonant objects) that come together in a central resonating body (the BODY module, also physics-based)."

DNIPRO MODULAR qTone Dual-Channel Quantizer

qTone quantizer tutorial video upload by DNIPRO MODULAR

"Here is a step by step qTone module demo.This will involve creating some tunes with a quantizer."

"The Dnipro Modular qTone is a two-channel quantizer for Eurorack systems, providing an easy way to convert any CV signal to perfectly quantized musical notes. With 16 user-defined scales, you can effortlessly tailor your melodies to perfectly match the tonal make-up of your music, or get creative by layering two different scales on each quantizer channel. Both channels feature options for Glide or portamento, Offset, which adjusts CV value pre-quantization, and Transpose, which nudges quantized CV values up or down in semitones.

Each of the four quantizer settings may be controlled by CV, opening up highly flexible options for continuously morphing melodic sequences. Finally, utilizing the Trig inputs allow you to operate the quantizer much like a sample and hold, only passing a newly sampled voltage when a trigger is applied. This is useful for creating rhythmic pitch changes when using non-clocked CV sources like LFOs. With so much melody-mangling potential in just 6hp, qTone from Dnipro Modular is a fantastic choice for quantization in any system.
