QuNeo & FX

YouTube Uploaded by KeithMcMillen on Jan 5, 2012

"In this video, Pressure, X, and Y CCs have been mapped to different parameters on 16 audio effects allowing for dynamic and performative audio mangling. Each Pad turns effects on and off, as well as tweaks their knobs and tickles their faders. Vertical sliders change volume, horizontal sliders mix in more audio effects, the long slider cross-fades, and the rotaries are tempo control. Very fun to play, very expressive, and very exciting."

I think they surpassed their goal. $124,874 of $15,000 as of this post.

Keith McMillan QuNeo Multi-Touch Open Source Controller

On Kickstarter

"QuNeo is a different species of pad controller for electronic musicians, DJs, VJs and DIY hackers. While it covers all of the functionality of other pad controllers, QuNeo adds the power of touch recognition in other dimensions.

Tactile Pads, Sliders, Rotary Sensors and Switches

Each of the 27 pads, sliders and rotary sensors are pressure, velocity, and location sensitive. Even the 17 switches respond to how hard you press.

LED Light Feedback

A remarkable lumination scheme combines variably diffusive elastomers with 251 multi-color LEDs providing visual feedback that is immediately responsive and delightfully informative. Man and machine are coupled through light, feel and sound.

Trigger Pads

16 square pads provide 127 levels of Velocity response. And X-Y location. And continuous pressure. For each pad. Times sixteen.

Rotary Surfaces

2 rotary surfaces allow you to scrub, trigger, stretch, pinch and play phrases and sound files, manipulate continuous controllers and more . Each rotary sensor measures angle, pressure and distance from the center.

Multi-touch Sliders

9 touch sensitive sliders can be mapped to fader and effects controls. LEDs within each slider act as VU meters or remind you where you were. Multi-touch lets you select a length between two fingers to set stereo locations or filter resonances. Tapping a slider can mute or toggle any track or function.

Switches

The switches are located in smart groupings to select samples, fader banks, and transport controls. Each of the switches can scan up and down through files at speeds variable with your touch. Great for quickly locating that perfect fill or telling your looper you really meant it.

The Size of an iPad.

QuNeo is the size of an iPad and can fit in iPad accessories such as mic clips, stands and more.

Class Compliant and Open Source Development Kit

QuNeo works with USB, MIDI or OSC and will communicate with your favorite music software environments right out of the box. More advanced users and programmers can use the development kit and API to create their own code to respond to QuNeo's sensor data. Hack away to control your world in ways never before possible!

We are asking for your support on KickStarter to put QuNeo into production.

QuNeo is fully designed and prototyped and will perfectly compliment SoftStep and 12 Step, our innovative foot controllers currently on the market. We are reaching out to you on Kickstarter to raise the funds for tooling and production to make QuNeo available ASAP. As a thank you for your support, we will happily send you one of our wonderful rewards, including this limited edition sticker."

QuNeo with Z3ta+2 & Ableton Live

YouTube Published on Jul 9, 2012 by encanti

"Encanti demonstrates the QuNeo MIDI controller by Keith McMillen Instruments to program patches for Z3ta+2 VST synthesizer by Cakewalk, running Ableton Live Suite 8 using Windows 7 (via bootcamp partition) on an Intel MacBook Pro.

Each square pad is sending MIDI CC data on X and Y axes using "Latch" mode. The CC messages are sent to different synth parameters within Z3ta+2. The MIDI notes and drum loop are both pre-recorded in this example.

Do you like my sounds? My Z3ta+2 presets are available through Cakewalk. Check out "Mutant Rebellion" and "Mutant Revolution" available here: http://www.store.cakewalk.com/b2cus/category.aspx?categoryID=106

QuNeo with Ableton Live Suite 8: DJ Effects

Published on Jul 9, 2012 by encanti

"Encanti demonstrates using KMI's QuNeo to mix tracks and use effects with Ableton Live Suite 8.

Each square pad is sending MIDI CC data on X and Y axes. The pads that stay lit are using "Latch" mode, others are using "Grid" which snap the XY values back to a pre-determined value. The CC messages are sent to different knobs within Ableton Live. The crossfader determines the dry/wetness of several effects.

"violinist Julia Ogrydziak introduces the KBow by Keith McMillen Instruments.

"* XYZ 3D Accelerometer - measures the playing force and angle of the bow
* Hair Tension Sensor - detects how hard the bow presses against the strings
* Grip Pressure Sensor - gives a measure of how hard you are gripping the bow
* Bow to Fingerboard - a measure of the distance you are playing from the fingerboard via the antennas embedded in the bow
* Bow Length - by interacting with the included fingerboard emitter, an infrared light sensor shows the distance from the bow frog to the strings of the instrument
* Bow Tilt - measures the angle of the bow, useful to know which string is being played"

Keith McMillen of course brought us the SoftStep and QuNeo alternate controllers. It looks like they are on a roll. See their website linked above for more and the Keith McMillen label below for posts featured here.

QuNeo Grid Mode and Live Sequencing

YouTube Uploaded by KeithMcMillen on Jan 6, 2012

"Here, QuNeo is used to sequence a drum track in real time. Operating in Grid Mode, each corner of a pad represents a different section in an 8 step sequence. Pushing the corner of the pads places a specific drum hit in that step in the sequence. LED feedback ticks the beat and displays drum sequences as they are programmed. FX are controlled by the horizontal sliders, rotaries, and long slider (which uses two finger width to determine the cutoff and cue on a filter).

Another exciting example of why QuNeo is going to take things to the next level."
