YAMAHA CS60 For Sale

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
Published on May 2, 2014 MarkJenkinsMusic·34 videos

via this auction

"A very rare opportunity to own a fully working Yamaha CS60. More portable than the CS80 and more expressive than the CS50, the CS60 is the ideal way to get those amazing Blade Runner/Chariots of Fire sounds which Vangelis created on the CS80. Other CS80 fans include Eddie Jobson who created fantastic layered textures and leads for "UK" and other bands, and Klaus Schulze.

The CS60 is eight-note polyphonic, fully analogue with variable resonance filters and has a velocity and aftertouch sensitive keyboard. Aftertouch can bring in vibrato, tremolo and filter opening just like on the CS80. Also as on the CS80, the CS60 has a fantastic voltage controlled ring modulator which creates huge clanging bell-like and metallic sounds - these are all over the 'Blade Runner' soundtrack and the music of Klaus Schulze - and a pitch strip which bends notes down to the sub-audio region..."

Delta Music Research Polyphonic Modular System 1100 SN 003

Published on Feb 16, 2014 MarkJenkinsMusic·31 videos

via this auction

"DELTA MUSIC RESEARCH STUDIO SYSTEM 1100
POLYPHONIC ANALOG MODULAR SYNTHESIZER, SERIAL No. 003

This is my fantastic Delta Music Research Studio System 1100 Polyphonic analog modular synthesiser. Built in Canada it's thought by ex-Moog technicians, there are very few of these systems in existence and this is Serial No. 003. It's probably the only one in the UK, though there are other users still in Canada and the USA.

The 1100 has all the advantages of an analog modular system and none of the disadvantages. Firstly although it appears modular, you don't have to install modules individually as they all share a large control panel circuit board, so there's no fiddly screw mounting system. In any case it's hard to see why you would ever want to change any modules when you have this great specification -

4 x Voltage Controlled Oscillators (switchable audio/LF)
4 x Voltage Controlled Envelopes
4 x Voltage Controlled Amplifiers
2 x Low Frequency Oscillators
2 x 4-channel mixers
2 x Voltage Controlled Filters
White/Pink Noise source
4 x Voltage Attenuators
6 x Multiples
Balanced Modulator
Inverter Summer
Voltage Controlled Flanger
Springline Reverb

Because the system has four of most modules and comes complete with a microprocessor controlled four-voice polyphonic keyboard, it's designed to play as a polyphonic analog synthesiser comparable to a polyphonic MiniMoog or an Oberheim 4-Voice. But mostly you'd use it in monophonic mode, and with the ability to modulate oscillators at audio frequencies and add voltage controlled flanging, it's capable of some incredible abstract sound textures. It's easily the equal of an EMS Synthi VCS3 in terms of being able to create and sustain its own evolving, clangourous and metallic sonic landscapes.

The system cabinet is 24.5 inches wide so this is a much more impressive object than the usual 19-inch systems. As such it would make an incredible centrepiece for an advanced analog or sound effects programming studio. Included also are the keyboard, box of patch cables, and 110V convertor for use in the UK (this powers both modules and keyboard).

Physical condition is very good. Some minor marks on the black tolex covering. One knob cap damaged but working (it may take you half an hour to spot which one).

For functionality refer to the YouTube demo where you will see and hear the oscillators, filters, LFO's, white noise, flanger, reverb, attenuators and others modules working, and this comprises the statement of the current working condition. I do not guarantee every one of the 250 or more controls and I can't demo the ADSR modules at the moment as I have no voltage trigger source for them. There may be some non-working options, or maybe I'm just not quite clear about the distinction between black (voltage) and white (audio) sources, and in fact I don't have much idea of the intended function of the AC/DC VCA's, the Balanced Modulator or the Inverter Summer. Some of the functions are simply not quite what you're used to - the two filters for example seem subtly different, though they are labelled the same.

I haven't been using the Power Amp (presumably a Headphone Amp) output as there's a spare output on the rear, but in the demo I simply take audio from any point in the system via an Attenuator as volume control.

The keyboard powers up and is assumed working but I'm not sure if I ever had a program cassette for it. There are PAiA user discussion groups easily accessible which will help you get the keyboard up and running, but I have always the synth with other control sources including MIDI controller keyboards with MIDI-to-CV interfaces, and aside from creating sound effects, this is much more likely how you would play the instrument.

In summary, the instrument is sold exactly as seen in the YouTube demo with no guarantee for every function. It is an advanced instrument absolutely not intended for beginners and not suitable for those who don't have some engineering and service backup available. As such no returns will be accepted.

PAYMENT/DELIVERY
Because of its size and value this instrument is intended for collection in London with cash payment. I'm very flexible about collection times and am based a couple of miles from the North Circular. You will not be able to collect on foot - the modular goes in any car boot, the keyboard (if you want it) on the back seat of any car. Parking is easy.

If you seem reputable there is a small chance I would sell and ship to you. I can crate the modular, just, but would probably decline to ship the keyboard which will be scrapped. You would pay by bank transfer and no other method. If you can not collect in London and pay cash, and expect shipping, please make contact at least two days before the listing end with your details. I will probably delete any bid which seems to require shipping to most non-UK countries.

Doepfer A100 Custom Suitcase Analog Modular Synthesizer System

Published on Jan 6, 2014 MarkJenkinsMusic·30 videos

via this auction

"3 VCO, 5 LFO, VC Delay and Trautonium Ribbon Controller System

This is my incredible custom portable Doepfer A100 modular analog synthesiser system, probably the most powerful it's possible to build in such a compact unit.

Think of it as two separate synths - the top row like a MiniMoog with three oscillators, mixer, Lowpass Filter, Envelope and Modulation Oscillator, the bottom row more like an EMS Synthi VCS3 with four slow oscillators, white noise/random, sample & hold, portamento, a voltage controlled delay line, a custom modulation joystick and a touch sensitive ribbon controller.

The power of this system for electronic, ambient, techno, abstract and film music has to be heard to be believed. Here's my YouTube demo [above] of the actual system on sale, please watch it to the end for important information about the sale."

Modularised Roland SH3a Up for Auction

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The SH3a is unique as a sound effects synthesizer in having a single oscillator with multiple footages all with different waveforms, "chorus" (pulse width modulation) on the 8 foot waveform, dual independent LFO's, white noise, and a sample & hold section capable of creating complex glissando and arpeggio patterns.

I used this SH3a for sound effects as a substitute for the larger and more expensive EMS Synthi VCS3, and with some reverb and delay added it sounds stunning.

White noise is also included and there are various modes for bending the pitch, as well as voltage inputs for filter and oscillator on the rear.

There isn't a Gate input so with the keyboard removed you can't play melodies on it as such. But the three keyboard connection cables are bundled inside and an experienced engineer could access these to restore keyboard functions, or to interface an analog sequencer. I have NOT kept the keyboard.

In very good working order and playing condition. The 32' footage doesn't work but for very deep bass you can transpose down very low while using the 16' setting. A spray of switch cleaner would be of benefit on most switches and rotaries."

Expanded Klaus Schulze Edition Black Quasimidi 309 GROOVE-X RAVE-O-LUTION

Published on May 8, 2013 MarkJenkinsMusic·27 videos

via this auction

"This is my rare QUASIMIDI 309-Groove-X rare KLAUS SCHULZE LIMITED EDITION now for sale in London.

It's a special version of the Rave-O-Lution 309 with a black finish, Klaus Schulze signature, special patterns, and two expansion sound memories on board.

The 309 is basically a Roland TR808/909 style drum machine plus a TB303 style bassline synth and sequencer, with dozens of drum, percussion and synth sounds to choose from, four audio outputs, two audio input, built-in effects and MIDI.

As such it's great for dance and DJ composers, and in this version particularly good for synth/sequencer composers too. There are patterns onboard which sound like entire Klaus Schulze techno albums alone.

The bass drum, snare and hi-hat sounds can be chosen from a whole bank of samples and have pitch and decay altered. There's a 12-note polyphonic bank of percussion sounds which include a lot of synth and string hits so make the instrument sound more like a polyphonic synth. The mono lead/bass synth of course has variable lowpass filter with resonance, and there's an overall Overblast overdrive as well as delay, flanger, reverb and other effects.

Patterns can be composed and chained into Songs and dumped via MIDI.

This 309 is in very good condition and includes rack ears and original power supply. There's a slight bend in the top left of the panel which isn't noticeable when rackmounted. Occasionally it's a little eccentric - some buttons sometimes need a firmer press than others and the display which usually flicks back to Tempo when it's not doing anything else sometimes stays on the last parameter you've edited. Nothing major though.

I'd like this to be collected in London (UK) and paid in cash. I will ship to the UK and to the USA, Germany and the rest of Europe, but you'll have to arrange payment by bank transfer or some other reliable method as I don't use PayPal.

More contact details for me on my website www.markjenkins.co"

QUASIMIDI POLYMORPH Demo Video

Published on Apr 16, 2013 MarkJenkinsMusic·26 videos

via this auction. Note this is a five day listing only. You can contact Mark below. Note I have a strict policy of only listing eBay items on the site and recommending Paypal only so you have buyer protection, however this one is in via Mark Jenkins who has been featured a number of times on the site. I'm guessing he is safe.

"QUASIMIDI POLYMORPH rare polyphonic virtual analog MIDI synth/sequencer

Up for sale is my excellent condition QUASIMIDI Polymorph. Designed with input from Klaus Schulze, this basically simulates a Moog Modular synth and multi-channel sequencer. It's four-note polyphonic and multitimbral, playing four different virtual analog synth sounds created from a huge variety of waveshapes. With MIDI In and Out and effects, the Polymorph can create huge synth sounds, multiple steptime patterns, percussion patterns and much more. Sequences can be chained into Songs and edited live while performing.

This unit's in very good condition complete with rack ears and a UK power supply. Some slight front panel and rackmount scratches.

I'd prefer collection in London but I'll ship to the UK, Europe and the USA, after full cleared irreversible payment. I don't accept any payment method which allows unscrupulous buyers to have funds deducted from the seller's bank account while still in possession of their goods, specifically I DON'T ACCEPT PAYPAL, as I only accept payment methods including bank transfer which are subject to UK and international banking regulators.

Feel free to contact me any time while the auction's running to discuss payment, collection or shipping options.

Happy Synthesizing (and Sequencing!)

Music From Outer Space SoundLab MiniSynth - TecBug Custom Cabinet

Music From Outer Space SoundLab MiniSynth - TecBug Custom Cabinet - for sale in London
Published on Feb 24, 2013 MarkJenkinsMusic·24 videos

via this auction

"This is my beautifully constructed Music From Outer Space SoundLab Minisynth, built by TecBug in the UK into a compact black tolex covered mini combo amp cabinet.

The synth has two audio oscillators which go to low and hypersonic frequencies, white noise, switchable LP/BP filter, AD/ASR envelope, and LFO. Many modulation routings including envelopes to filter, LFO to Pulse Width and so on are included for some great sound manipulation options.

An extra panel offers audio output and CV/Gate in for use with a CV keyboard or sequencer. UK power supply included.

Speakers and echo heard on the demo are not built in. Full info is on the Music From Outer Space website, I don't have a handbook but the synth is functioning exactly as seen in this demo - I think I understand all the functions except AR Repeat On, which may or may not be functioning as intended.

Contact me direct in London to purchase. I will ship inside or outside the UK after cash or bank transfer payment - I don't accept PayPal.

MARK JENKINS "Peter Gunn" from the CD "EX1GENE"

Published on Jan 5, 2013 MarkJenkinsMusic·22 videos

"MARK JENKINS 'Peter Gunn' from the CD 'EX1GENE'. Composed by Henry Mancini, arranged by Keith Emerson, performed by Mark Jenkins on the Yamaha EX-1. Drums, sound effects, fx, mixing; Apple Mac. Filmed and edited by Mark Jenkins. CD "EX1GENE" by Mark Jenkins out now through Amazon and www.markjenkins.co"

"'Peter Gunn', an award-winning TV detective show theme composed by Henry Mancini, became a staple of Emerson Lake & Palmer's live concerts in the late 1970's and Mark Jenkins first performed the piece in 1985. 'I liked my 1980's version but the opportunity to recreate the piece effectively using the same instrumentation as Keith Emerson but with the added benefits of the latest computer editing techniques and sound effects was very exciting', Mark explains. 'My most recent albums and live performances have all been of sequencer-based iPad music, so multitracking a quite demanding piece played entirely by hand again was a great experience'.

'Peter Gunn' is the first video track released to promote Mark's new CD 'EX1GENE'. 'A lot of the other tracks owe more to world music, krautrock and Brian Eno's ambient style, so this progressive rock piece makes a rousing end to the album. I'll be creating some more abstract videos though for the more chillout oriented tracks on the CD'.

Mark Jenkins will be in concert in the UK and overseas during 2013, though the EX-1, which weighs something over 480 pounds, will definitely not be appearing on stage...

YAMAHA EX1 FOR SALE POLYSYNTH ELP VIDEO

YouTube Published on Jun 14, 2012 by MarkJenkinsMusic

Update: according to Wikipedia the EX-42 was the stage model of the GX1, not the EX1.

Update: for those pressed on time, don't miss the slide out programmer at 20:14, the inside with the front panel removed/hinged up at 22:22, and the horizontal vibrato at 13:00 for the small keyboard. 13:47 reminded me of Beastie Boys Intergalactic.

"YAMAHA EX1 POLYPHONIC SYNTHESIZER FOR SALE.

My Yamaha EX1 is now for sale. In extremely good playing order, it's located in central UK. Buyer will collect and will need a large van ideally with tail lift.

The Yamaha EX1 is the theatre version of the GX1 as played by Keith Emerson (with Emerson Lake & Palmer on 'Fanfare for the Common Man'), by Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, Abba, Ekseption and more recently by Hans Zimmer. It's thought that maybe a dozen GX1's and 40 EX1's were manufactured.

While the GX1 was fully programmable (with difficulty) and featured a pitch bend strip, the EX1 is easily programmed for three overall patches using a slide-out front panel, and has polyphonic glide and, on the solo keyboard, a unique side-to-side movement for modulation.

The EX1 features two fully polyphonic keyboards (with organ tabs and polyphonic analog synthesizer sounds) which can be slaved together, a top keyboard monophonic analog synthesizer which can be slaved to the upper organ manual, and a monophonic analog synthesizer bass played from the included pedals, or slaved to the lower keyboard. Also included is an analog drum machine, auto chord accompaniment section, and arpeggiator.

Included with this EX1 is the original double width pearl white matching bench, and the user manual. I never took delivery of the matching speakers which are enormous - there are various audio outputs to use Leslie-type rotary speakers, or such effects can simply be added by digital fx units.

Playing condition is exactly as shown in the video, shot in mid-June 2012, and while there are very very minor questions the instrument is basically in full working order. One or two keys are intermittent on some but not all sounds, but are by no means dead and probably just in need of a clean, a couple of panel light bulbs are dead, and it's possible one of the several modulation shapes on the solo synth is non-functional - but then again, it's possible I may have misunderstood some functions, and it's certain that most controls need to be DOWN rather than UP as you'd expect for full level.

To collect the synth you'll need a large and ideally tail-lift van able to reach central UK. The bass pedals, bench and bench legs are all separately boxed. Please do not ask me about shipping of any kind - it's not possible.

Substantial offers please including details of your arrangements for collection. Obviously no dubious payment methods such as Western Union or PayPal will even be considered.
