SUPERBOOTH21 in 6 Weeks - Program and Special Event Tickets

SUPERBOOTH21 is coming this September 15 through 18. See https://www.superbooth.com/ for full details on the event.

Press release on the Program and Special Event Tickets follows:

Berlin, August 2021

SUPERBOOTH21 in 6 weeks - the program and the special event tickets

Many national and international exhibitors and their innovative synthesizers and effect devices attract thousands of music makers to FEZ-Berlin every year. Equally attractive are the numerous concerts and special events. These inclu- de many workshops that invite you to join in, the SchneidersLaden Tour and the comfortable arrival by boat shuttle from Berlin Mitte.

Stage program: This year, SUPERBOOTH21 will feature four stages. In addition to the auditorium and the seaside stage, two new venues will be added: the Finn- hütten and the Fuchsbau.

In the auditorium, there will be Gesprächskonzerte (lecture concerts) and talks - with Jean-Michel Jarre, Reinhold Heil, Atom TM and T.Raumschmiere among others. Early Wednesday evening, the Miller-Zillmer-Foundation will present it- self to invited guests in the auditorium, where it will celebrate its two-year an- niversary. This year the Miller-Zillmer-Foundation makes possible the workshop series with Gammon and his Modular Synthesizer Ensemble, as well as - in co- operation with Mute Artists Ltd. - the headlining concerts on the seaside stage every evening: Yann Tiersen, hackedepicciotto, JakoJako and Pole.

The past 18 months have left room for many artists to go into the studio and write new music. SUPERBOOTH21 is one of the first opportunities to bring the results of these processes on stage and so there are some premieres to see. Yann Tiersen (Mute, release date: August 27, 2021) presents his new album „Kerber“. Also from hackedepicciotto (Mute), st.raumen (release date:
30. August 2021) and Pole (Mute) there is something new to hear.

The seaside stage will also feature Maarten Vos, Bloody Mary, Carolina Eyck, Kitmun and Ain TheMachine X SBNH, among others. The stage at the Finnhütten will be hosted by the legendary Tresor. For the 30th anniversary of the Berlin club and label, there will be concerts every night at 8:30 p.m. by e.g. Z.I.P.P.O, Carlota and Artik.

The ever-popular Gesprächskonzerte will mainly take place at the Fuchsbau. On this new stage, SOMA Laboratory, Verbos Electronics, Haken Audio, Polyend, U-HE, Joranalogue and Bitwig, among others, will musically present their pro- ducts. In addition, you can also get involved yourself at the Fuchsbau and contri- bute to the musical background of the event at the Modular Carousel.
Workshops & DIY: The various DIY workshops will take place in the cozy ambien- ce of the DIY tent at the Fuchsbau. Workshops offered are from Befaco, Leaf Audio, Making Sound Machines, Touellskouarn and Shakmat Modular, among others. Due to the severe limitation of places, tickets for the DIY workshops should be booked early.

Other workshops include the Tapeloop Workshop on September 18 (for up to 5 participants), the Kreativ Klangsafari in cooperation with the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and of course Gammon‘s Modular Synthesizer Ensemble, who will once again be working on a daily performance with students and presenting it at 1:30pm.

Tickets for many workshops can already be booked online and can be found here.

Livestream & virtuelle Gesprächskonzerte (lecture concerts): Those who are unable to attend SUPERBOOTH21 in person can look forward to the daily lives- tream. Here, the highlights of the various stages will be shown in a three-hour program. This also includes the virtual Gesprächskonzerte, which offer exhibitors who cannot come to SUPERBOOTH21 the unique opportunity to present them- selves to the audience simultaneously online and on site - live on screen in the auditorium. Among other things, the Gesprächskonzerte by and with Noise Engi- neering and Animal Factory Amplification will be presented here.

Boat shuttle: The boat shuttle departs daily from the old historic harbor in Berlin Mitte in the direction of FEZ-Berlin. The landing stage can be found at Mellow- park. From here there are precise signs to find the right way to FEZ-Berlin.

Tickets for the boat shuttle are available now and are very limited. It is advisable to be quick! Here you can get the tickets.

SchneidersLaden Tour: The tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at Germa- ny‘s most important synthesizer store - SchneidersLaden. For this tour Andreas Schneider has asked one of his first employees to tell interested guests about the history of SchneidersLaden, SchneidersBuero and Superbooth – and to provide insights into the current showrooms and behind the scenes of SchneidersLaden in Berlin Kreuzberg.

What‘s left to say? Stay healthy everyone and get vaccinated so we can spend a wonderful SUPERBOOTH21 together in September!

And: Day tickets for SUPERBOOTH21 are currently still available for all time periods on superbooth.com and can be combined at will with the special event tickets for workshops, boat shuttle and the exclusive tour through Schneiders- Laden.
Tickets for DIY workshops are only valid in combination with any day ticket for SUPERBOOTH21. All special event tickets are strictly limited and can only be booked in advance of the event.
All tickets are available exclusively via pre-sale on superbooth.com - there will be no box office to ensure a contactless transaction.

Please note that access to the exhibition grounds will only be granted with a daily negative rapid test, complete approved vaccination or convalescent status.

Wowa Cwejman Has Passed Away

Some sad news in today. Legendary synthesizer maker Wlodzimierz Cwejman, known as Wowa Cwejman to the synth community, has passed away. As anyone who has visited this site over the years knows, his creations are recognized as the best of the best when it comes to quality and sound. He will be sorely missed.

The following was shared by Maho Cwejman:

“I’m incredibly sad to say that Wlodzimierz Cwejman (Wowa ) passed away yesterday. Wowa was an incredible man making great things and I love that we made so many together. Right now I hope you appreciate I need some time but will come back as soon as possible with an update to Cwejman. I want to thank everyone for your support and kind words🙏 Wlodzimierz Cwejman 1949-2021

"In memory of Wowa Cwejman who passed away 30.01.2021
Thank you Wowa for you wonderful instruments wich always inspired me making music.

The video is from a workshop long time ago in Schneidersbuero .. i think around 2008.
The music is made in 2007 after i bought my Cwejman S1. The sounds are done with a Doepfer A-154/155 Sequencer, Cwejman S1 and a Roland JV1080 for the pad.

Rest in Peace!"

And a couple of interviews from the archives:

Workshop with Wowa Cwejman @SchneidersLaden [previously posted here]

Published on Jan 15, 2019

"At the beginning of July 2018 SchneidersLaden had the opportunity to welcome Wowa Cwejman again. The occasion was the presentation of four new modules. Wowa Cwejman was so kind to give us an overview of these modules in the large showroom of SchneidersLaden, together with Tom Körting they went through all new aspects of the modules and patched some sound examples. With the displayed oscilloscope you get a good sense of what is happening with the signals. All in all a lot of new possibilities to explore!

Update: a tribute from C Nich0llsL.

"Single take recording from Cwejman S1. I was fortunate to pick up one of the last batch (in grey). Had been kicking myself for not getting one when they fist launched for several years. It is beautiful.
The recording had been sitting on my desktop for a couple of months. After hearing of Wowa's passing, I am sharing as an homage to the beautiful tone of this instrument and to the man that created it.
Recorded through Strymon;s Night Sky, the resonances seem to stretch out into the darkness.
Left unadorned for those who may want to take a moment and gaze at the Night Sky.
Thank you, for a beautiful instrument."

One To Watch: JakoJako (Electronic Beats TV)

Telekom Electronic Beats

"Next in our Telekom Electronic Beats TV One To Watch series is JakoJako.

Working at the legendary Schneiders Laden synthesizer store in Berlin has immersed JakoJako in the world of modular synthesizers, which is clearly born out in the juicy sound she coaxes out of her machines, spanning all the way from the experimental and esoteric, right through to the highly melodic. This unique tonal quality gained the attention of Leisure System, who released her debut single last year, and more recently Bpitch Control, making her very much an essential producer to check out."

Published on Aug 7, 2017

"Recording the lovely Metasonix D-1000 Drum Machine for http://www.sound-provider.eu/
I'm in Love with its kind of primitive sound, Don't use it if you are afraid of background noise or uncontrolled sub :)

Info from schneiders laden Site:
The D-1000 Vacuum-Tube Drum Machine is the first drum machine made with vacuum tubes since the Wurlitzer Sideman of 1959. Even though it has only four drum sounds -- two tunable drums, a tunable hard "snare" drum, and a cymbal -- control voltage inputs give great flexibility.

SUPERBOOTH16 in Funkhaus Berlin
 Set for March 31 - April 2

Many of you will be familiar with previous Superbooths hosted at the Musikmesse. All of were the brainchild of Andreas Schneider of Schneiders Buero, Schneiders Laden, Stromkult, and Alex4. This year he is hosting the Superbooth at its own event and it looks like it will be massive. For a list of exhibitors see this page. The event runs March 31st – April 2nd
in Berlin. The following is the official press release:

"The first annual SUPERBOOTH16, music and culture fair will be taking place from March 31st - April 2nd in Berlin. What started as a small stand on the Musikmesse in Frankfurt, will now be presented in Berlin as a broadly programmed Culture festival organized by SchneidersBuero in Berlin. The exhibition will take place at the historic Funkhaus, which is a former German radio station that will provide an uncompromised acoustic and architectural setting.

Over the last 15 years, SchneidersLaden has grown to become a leader in the distribution and marketing of innovative musical and sound instruments in Berlin and throughout Europe. The founder and CEO, Andreas Schneider, can be attributed as one of the main worldwide drivers behind the present modular synthesizer HYPE. One might consider the worldwide distribution and purchase of electronic instruments is the basic reason for electronic music.

The present momentum is so strong, that even the larger well known manufacturers have invested in developing new concepts to compete with the small manufacturers.

SUPERBOOTH16: Idea and Beginnings

Although Berlin is one of the most modern electronic music centers on the globe, it has never had an adequate music fair to support the scene. With SUPERBOOTH16, this will change the landscape. SUPERBOOTH16 will be the large format presentation of the stand which has been seen at the Frankfurter Musikmesse over the last 15 years. The stand magnetized the visitors to see directly what one can do with these instruments. Many of which are hand made and only available in limited runs.

Over 100 exhibitors are registered for SUPERBOOTH16 with the larger synthesizer names like Yamaha and Roland, classic specialists like Dieter Doepfer (Original Kraftwerk Synthesizer maker) through many self-made and smaller exhibitors like Make Noise and others. Also, classic manufacturers of keyboard instruments like Dave Smith and leading software companies like Ableton or Native Instruments will also be present to show and demonstrate their latest developments.
SUPERBOOTH16: The Fair as Culture Festival.

To promote and support the living and evolving Berliner Music scene, SUPERBOOTH16 provides a base concept of an instrument fair and cultural program. It is a living come-together for manufacturers, dealers, musicians, tinkerers, new-comers and the scene.

Aside from the mixture of interesting instruments, over the course of three days, there will be daily presentations, demonstrations, discussions and DIY workshops. Each evening there will be a night program that will be presented with well-known artists involved.

On the weekend nights, April 1st and 2nd, SUPERBOOTH16 will hold a large concerts and party in the special Funkhaus Culture Hall where notable artists will be performing.

SUPERBOOTH16: The Berliner Funkhaus as Special Location

The selection of the Funkhaus as a fair location is an architectural and integration win. The design of the fair not only presents the incoming exhibitors a rare ambient, but integrates the presently running or in operation recording studios and function halls. This special integration will allow for a very high level of acoustics for the presentation of instruments, which is quite rare for a musical fair.

Schneider also has made travelling to and from the Funkhaus a special experience. A free boat shuttle is being provided from Mitte near the Jannowitzbrücke and Chinese Embassy which will take visitors and exhibitors through a small tour of the Berliner Spree and land directly at the Funkhaus.

Further information to the concept, the exhibitors and program can be found at www.superbooth.com.

MATRIXSYNTH NAMM 2016 Pics

MATRIXSYNTH NAMM 2016

Update: Booth list added below.  30 booths in one day!  It's become tradition for me to come on Saturday only.  The site is just too busy leading up to then.  Be sure to see the last image in the set  It's the NAMM Booth promo for the first showing of the original Minimoog Model D.  The Bob Moog Foundation was giving out buttons of the flyer which you can see in the second to last image.  You never know what will be your last pic at NAMM.  I am glad it was this one.  It's more than fitting considering the Minimoog was the birth of modern day synthesizers.  Apologies for not calling this out earlier.  It was one of those should I not say anything and let people pause at that image and discover what it meant on their own, or should I call it out.  I guess I did both.  :)

--

So first of all, apologies for the super tall pic to start! For some reason Flickr's slideshow is not resizing it, and a few others, to fit the desired frame size. Mouse over the image and use the controls that come up to move through the slide show. Once you get past the first image, the majority of the rest should fit fine. For what it's worth, the super tall pic to start does give you a feel of what it's like to walk up to the entrance of NAMM. If you prefer you can check out the set on Flickr here. Feel free to grab any pics for your wallpaper but if you'd like to use them professionally (not that any are that good :), please contact me by clicking on the small email icon on the bottom right of the site. This year I took a total of 328 pics.

All that said, enjoy the set! The pics speak for themselves. If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them in the comments.

NAMM was great this year. Lots of familiar faces and lots of new. Modular has grown exponentially. It was on the main floor this year rather than what we like to call the dungeon. As for new synths, the DSI Oberheim OB-6 stole the show. The minilogue looked and sounded great and the KORG Volca FM was a very nice surprise. Roland's booth was great; nice dim lighting to let the blinky synth lights shine, as well as giving you a more intimate experience with their synths. There was also a cool wall sized timeline of Roland synths. Malekko's Roland System 500 synths were in show and I actually was able to help with one that had its envelope switched to loop mode. Moog's Island of Electronicus was an incredible space. The pics don't do it justice. It was literally like an oasis in NAMM. Things get pretty hectic and can feel overwhelming at times. Moog's booth just made you smile and relax. Thank you Moog!

PS, there are a couple of non-synth shots in the set that might make you smile. I took them to show my wife what I was looking at. :)

Including this post, 253 NAMM2016 posts have gone up and more are sure to follow.

CV Input jack SVF A & B - CV input for frequency control, attenuated by CV Pot
V/Oct Input jack - CV input for VoltOctave Range, unattenuated"

"Handmade in Berlin! Strictly limited to 15 units and exclusively available at Schneiders!
For warming-up in the Eurorack stadium, so to say, AQA ElektriXpresents their first module, a fantasticly sweet 24dB cascade Minimoog filter with hand-selected and hand-matched transistors, usind quality mechanical parts.

DETAILS
Is it necessary to describe the Minimoog's filter sound? Sweet and creamiy with a distinct resonance that goes to oscillation. The AQA filter is an accurate replica of this filter, manufactured with lots of love and hand labor - everything is made with discrete components and even soldered by hand.

The filter has two audio inputs with level controls; they make the filter distort at high levels above 10Vpp, just like the original did. The resonance can be set manually.
For modulating the cutoff frequency there are three CV inputs: two with attenuators and one with a characteristic of approx. 1V per octave.

CONNECTORS
audio: two inputs, one output
cutoff CV inputs: two attenuated, one 1V/octave

DIMENSIONS
3U Eurorack module, 14HP wide, 41mm deep
Current draw: 26mA @ +12V and 13mA @ -12V"

MFB Tanzbar Analog Drum Machine / Synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a fantastic drum machine, the best sounding one I've ever had. It's generally out of stock in the US. This one was obtained from Schneiders Laden in Germany. It shows no signs of wear/scratches and it's been used only in my smoke-free studio. I'm selling everything and this is the last one to go since I love it so much. It retails at $1,200. It came with a German power supply but I will include the US adapter.

Info:

mfb's tanzbãr drum-computer offers fourteen analogue percussion instruments as well as a synthesizer for bass- and melodic voices. its integrated step-sequencer allows flashlight-programming and storage of up to 144 patterns. all parameters can be recorded per step! because of its ability to control and call up all functions on the fly, while the unit is running, tanzbãr is ideally suited for live performances.

using the fill-function, patterns can be chained for longer sequences. in addition, every pattern offers a/b variations that can be switched manually or automatically for further flexibility. also, tanzbãr allows saving 16 flame and roll-variations.

the step-length is controllable per instrument, allowing easy creation of polyrhythmic structures. possible resolutions are 32th and 16th steps as well as 16th- and 8th triplet-steps. the shuffle amount can be continuously controlled globally and per instrument.

each instrument offers three accent intensities. add the bend-function to create glides and lfo-like sweeps for bass drum 1/2, snare drum and toms 2/3.

in addition to the percussion-instruments, tanzbãr offers addressing external instruments using its two cv/gate outputs; one being able to control dynamics via a third cv-output. the same tracks are routed to the internal bass- and melody-synthesizer voices. an ideal solution to pre-listen and program patterns without any need for external equipment.

the cv/gate-sequencer offers a range of three octaves and is programmable using two methods. all parameters are output via midi, allowing control of external instruments. the drum-computer can be synchronized via midi- and clock-signals.

finally, tanzbãr not only offers a master volume knob but individual level controls and mute-functions per instrument. the unit provides a stereo output as well as twelve individual outputs.

Abstract Data Coming to the Musikmesse

via @abstractjuz

"Planning the Abstract Data demo rig for the Schneiders Booth @ Musikmesse '15 - lots of new modules to show!"

And the first Musikmesse2015 post of the year goes to Abstract Data!  For those not familiar with the Musikmesse, it is essentially Europe's version of NAMM.  It is HUGE, some say even bigger than NAMM, but I haven't done the research to verify either way myself.  This year it is scheduled for April, 15 - 18th.  You'll be able to keep track of everything Musikmesse via the Musikmesse2015 channel.  I will add a link to the site menu above when posts start trickling in.  As usual you can expect an influx of new gear demos and announcements.
