HEXINVERTER Mutant Hot Glue - Overview/Demo

Published on Jul 29, 2015 hexinverterDOTnet

"The HEXINVERTER Mutant Hot Glue is an analog bus mixer with hi-fi compressor and voltage controlled distortion, for the eurorack modular synthesizer format.

MORE INFO: http://www.hexinverter.net/mutant-hot...
or
https://www.modulargrid.net/e/hexinve...

The included high quality analog compressor offers series or parallel compression, and a sidechain input, making it well suited for drum processing. The voltage controlled distortion is based on the batteryACID: IDOW Edition design, but improved for better signal fidelity and performance. It can be used in its default position, normalized to the effects send, or like every other part of the module, broken out and used elsewhere in your modular system.

By default, the 4 channel mixer’s output conveniently feeds into the compressor’s input, giving access to easy New York style parallel compression by way of the compressor blend control. The dedicated output and mixer bypass switch for channel A allow you to easily use it as a sidechain source for the compressor. An effects send and return allow you to create complex effects routings within your modular system. With the number of excellent DSP and other effects modules on the market today, this makes it easy to combine modules to great effect, all within the eurorack modular domain."

hexinverter.net ORBITALS step sequencer demo

Published on May 27, 2014 hexinverterDOTnet·26 videos

"Orbitals is a 2x8 or 1x16 step analog sequencer with voltage addressed step select and bipolar voltage output modes. It packs a lot of punch in a very economical package as either a 42HP eurorack modular DIY kit ($279) or fully assembled eurorack module.

Here I demo the module and sequence an ALM/Thonk SID GUTS DIY oscillator and use a Galilean Moons for the VCA/envelope. I also use the upcoming first two Mutant Drums from hexinverter.net: the Mutant Bassdrum and Hihats (demo videos coming shortly!)

How To: Modular Synthesizer Panel/PCB Brackets

Published on Jul 23, 2013 hexinverterDOTnet·20 videos

"I get asked how I go about mounting PCBs to front panels for my modular synthesizer quite frequently, so, I've made a short video demonstrating how I do it.

You'll need some tin snips, roof flashing (or plain sheet metal), a drill press as well as some other hand tools. The whole process is actually quite simple and I recommend anyone pick up this easy skill to learn! It'll make synthDIY a whole lot easier."

hexinverter.net AteOhAte Mutant TR-808 Cowbell DIY project -- Demo1

Published on Jul 17, 2013 hexinverterDOTnet·19 videos

"The AteOhAte Mutant Cowbell is a DIY (do it yourself) TR-808 Cowbell module based on the analogue circuit in Roland's famous drum machine. The circuit has been adapted for use in a modular synthesizer, and, while being able to create the same sounds featured on the 808, can also create other sounds thanks to the modified tunable oscillators and voltage control over the cowbell's pitch.

You can build one yourself at home (along with many other x0x-based drum modules) once PCBs are available from me at hexinverter.net

I will be releasing the AteOhAte Mutant HiHats at the same time as this project.

hexinverter.net vcNOIZ Voltage Controlled Noise Oscillator Demo #2

Published on Dec 27, 2012 by hexinverterDOTnet

"vcNOIZ is a voltage controller noise oscillator for analogue modular synthesis. It is capable of generating white noise just like any other noise module, but also features voltage control of the noise pitch and sub-octave outputs which add their own character tone to the noise. The circuitry is entirely analog and uses no microcontrollers. It is a DIY (do it yourself) project as well as a complete assembled eurorack module.

In this demo, I ramble on and on about vcNOIZ, what you can do with it, then I demonstrate a few of the most prominent uses for it by generating pure white noise and then some percussive elements from it as well.

More demo videos to come :)

hexinverter.net vcNOIZ Voltage Controlled Noise Oscillator w/ Pressure Points

hexinverter.net vcNOIZ Voltage Controlled Noise Oscillator w/ Pressure Points demo

Published on Dec 24, 2012 by hexinverterDOTnet

"vcNOIZ is a voltage controller noise oscillator for analogue modular synthesis. The circuitry is entirely analog and uses no microcontrollers. It is a DIY (do it yourself) project as well as a complete assembled eurorack module.

In this short demo clip, one of the noise outputs from vcNOIZ is being frequency modulated by a Make Noise Pressure Points as well as some near audio rate FM from various shape LFOs (which are being mixed at points via the Intellijel PLANAR vector mixer)

vcNOIZ -- A DIY Voltage Controlled Noise Source for your modular

Published on Sep 21, 2012 by hexinverterDOTnet

"This is a very early preview of a voltage controlled noise module I am working on. It is of course designed for use in an analog modular synthesizer.

That is, the pitch is controllable via control voltage signals, which makes for a very interesting sonic palette.

If there is enough interest, I will make a circuit board and have it for sale in the hexinverter.net online shop.

All of the parts are pretty commonly available and should make for a pretty fun project to put together.

This design differs from a lowpass filtered white noise source, because a lowpass filter would likely alter the edges (and thus the sonic characteristic) of the noise. Because the noise source itself is generated by a digital shift register, harsh digital noise reminiscent of the C64 and NES will be possible at all frequencies."

A 909 kick drum clone you can build! (BETA)

YouTube Published on Aug 24, 2012 by hexinverterDOTnet

"This is a clone of the 909 kick / bass drum that I have been working on. It is able to be built with common parts, or with the rare 2SC/2SA transistors originally used in the design (room for both is on the circuit board)

APOLOGIES for the poor audio. My speaker cones are "fluffing" and my cell phone camera's mic REALLY accented that sound. The kick itself is nice and clean sounding, of course. I will be sharing some directly recorded sound samples soon!

I have added trigger input conditioners and some basic things to make it play nice in an analog modular synthesizer system. None of the original voicing circuitry has been altered.

I will have circuit boards available in my webstore soon: http://www.hexinverter.net

A build guide and modification guide will accompany the project.

Follow the Muffwigglers thread for more info, here!:

909 Kick Clone Noise Generator Comparison

Published on Aug 24, 2012 by hexinverterDOTnet

"Here I demonstrate the sonic difference between a microcontroller-based white noise generator, and the CMOS based noise generator designed by Roland for the TR-909 analog drum machine.

I hope the difference is clear in the video...apologies for the poor quality. I will do some sound samples later as well.

I am working on a do it yourself 909 kick / bass drum clone you can buy a PCB for and build yourself.

PCBs will be in stock at: http://www.hexinverter.net in a few weeks!"
