Kawai R-50e Digital Drum Machine - Sounds and Patterns

video upload by zibbybone

"Little brother to the R-100, but agressive none-the-less. Drum sounds include Simmons-style electronic kit, Reverb kick, snare and toms, gated snare, claps, 'HiQ' click, snap, thumb and slap bass guitar, 2 different orchestra hits and timpani.

Here I demonstrate the 4 preset drum kits and the 8 USER kits which can be overwritten with your own settings along with the 50 built-in drum patterns.

Audio was recorded direct from the headphone output into the stereo mic input on my Canon T3i (sorry about the line noise in a spot or two). Any reverb you hear is sampled into the drum sounds. Delay and flange effects can be programmed into a drum kit. I'm pretty sure those effects are achieved by "doubling" the voices limiting the machine's 8 voice polyphony."

Processing External Audio Through Roland SH-5's VCA triggered by LFO

video upload by zibbybone

"Running a drum pattern from a Roland TR-8S into the SH-5's external input then having the SH-5's VCA triggered by the SH-5 LFO2. Lastly, I also modulate the VCF as well."

zibbybone Happy 909 Day! 2020

zibbybone

"Thought I'd make a quick (and sloppy) video for 909 day. Am I the only one that uses the 909's External Instrument Mode? I'm using that to play a bass line on the Jupiter 6. 909's trigger out is driving the SH-101's arpeggiator. Yeah, I need to get those pots cleaned on the 909."

M.P.C.Electronics D.S.M. 1+2 Rare Analog Drum Synth MPC DSM w/Roland Trigger Pad

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"COOL and RARE M.P.C. Electronics Drum Synthesizer Module System.
THICK British drum synth sounds from the mid 1980s

100 % working order - VERY cool sounding analog drum synths.

Fat Snares, "808s", Linn style tom sounds, with a little TAMA Tech-Star vibe. Pitch adjustments are smooth since it's analog and all settings are very tweakable.

Roland PD-21/31 pads are heavily used, but work well. They are included, but not really in the price $$.
No mounting hardware is included other than the integrated clamp mechanism.

This auction includes a two channel unit (DSM2), AND a single unit with power supply (DSM1), connecting Power cable and 2 Roland Trigger Pads (one single PD21 and one PD31 with 4 zones)

Controls: Input Sensitivity, Decay, Bend, Pitch, Mix, Noise, and Click (the transient/attack)

Here is a pretty great demo video of some of the sounds possible with the DSM units: (NOT MY VIDEO)

PPG Wave 2.3 Digital Wavetable Synthesizer with Analog Filters Hybrid Synth V8.3

PPG Wave 2.3 strange output Published on Jun 11, 2008 zibbybone

"Strange modulated output from PPG Wave 2.3"

via this auction

"Alright, before y'all start posting this listing on your forums and social media groups saying "ermergerd! look at this $6k PPG Wave 2.3 that doesn't even work", most of y'all have never played a PPG Wave and don't know the magic that lives inside it. Nothing, NOTHING, sounds like a PPG Wave except a PPG Wave.

OK, I bought this dude back in 2007. I ordered the V8.3 system along with new LCD backlight and knob covers from Virtual Music in Austria. I had my local tech install said parts, but never could get proper audio out of it - just seach YouTube for "PPG Wave Strange Output", that's this very synth. You can also see the keyboard doing the "PPG Wave" also known as Austin Powers' teeth. It's going to need rebushing like every other synth with a Pratt-Read keyboard.

Again, with the "ermergehrd!", why is shipping so high. Again, you boneheads don't know how fragile these synths are. I sold a Wave 2.2 to Calvin Harris a few years ago. I build a crate out of OSB and secured it to a shipping pallet and shipped it via motor freight so that it would not be handled improperly. I will ship this the same way.

If no one buys it, good. Maybe someday I will find a tech that can bring it 100% functionality.

Be sure to check out my other listings for more electronic musical instruments."

Nord Drum 2 as Polyphonic Synth Module

Published on Sep 8, 2018 zibbybone

"Upon arriving to KnobCon 7, my friend Winston showed me that he was able to turn the ND2 into a polysynth by using a MIDIBro in the data flow. Each voice of the ND2 is on their own MIDI channel and the MIDIBro merges them together.
So I went back to my room and grabbed my MiniBrute to use as a MIDI keyboard controller and decided to do a little improve while he tweaked the ND2's parameters via his Digitakt."

Having Fun with Digitone’s FM Synthesizer

Published on Jul 12, 2018 zibbybone

"I just received my new Elektron Digitone yesterday and I’ve been enjoying the synth engine so much, I haven’t even learned to program patterns. I love how there’s a 'Harmonics' feature that you can change the operators’ waveform from a basic sine wave to something more complex and rich in harmonics. You can even use an LFO to sweep the waveform creating quasi wavetable like timbres.

I chose algorithm 2 which has 2 audible operators, each with a modulator and you can mix between the 2. The “Y” part has instant attack and 'X' fades in."

Roland System 8 V1.20 FM Oscillators

Published on Jun 29, 2018 zibbybone

"Roland just released a new upgrade to the System8 synthesizer adding 2 set of oscillator variants. Variation 3 adds six 2 operator choices and Variation 4 add six 5 operator choices.

To demonstrate these new features, I have an arpeggiator running while I select the different FM choices while also adjusting the AMP release time which not only affects the amplitude of the overall sound, but modulates the oscillator’s 'color'.

You are hearing a single oscillator (OSC2 is muted) and a little bit of the Sys8’s built-in reverb. I accidentally hit one of the program buttons and changed the patch just before getting to Var4, FM5 Type F. I didn't feel like re-shooting the video. My oligopolies."

Gnarly Akai AX60 VCO modulation to VCF

Published on Jun 10, 2017 zibbybone

"The underrated Akai AX60 is one of the few polysynths that allow you to modulate the VCF with the VCO. The AX60 is in UNISON mode with its arpeggiator triggered by Kawai R-100 drum machine. Filmed with iPhone 6s using Roland Go:Mixer interface."

Oberheim TVS-1 Final Jam

Published on Apr 21, 2017 zibbybone

"I sold my Oberheim Two Voice last week and decided to give it one last quick jam before sending it off to its new owner. I'm using the Arturia KeyStep to sequence the SEM on the right and playing the left SEM from the keyboard. The audio out is then run into the Roland Fantom X6 to use its built-in FX (delay, in this instance)."

Roland TR-606 through Aira Bitrazer & Demora FX modulated by Moog CP-251

Published on Dec 23, 2016 zibbybone

"Further experimentation led to this video. Here we have the 606 running through two effect units. The 606's Low Tom trigger out is triggering the Bitrazer's Bypass and the 606's High Tom is triggering the Demora's Bypass giving delay effect on the back beats. Then I run the Moog's LFO into various control voltage inputs on the effect units to add to the mayhem. Oh, and after the 5 minute mark, there's a bonus: my 9 year-old was messing with this rig while I was tearing things down and I liked something he did, so I wired everything back up and tweaked it."
