Knobcon 6 Banquet Jam

Published on Sep 11, 2017 7numan7

"A nice jam session after the Knobcon 6 Banquet (where Tom Oberheim gave the keynote speech) featuring special guest Michael Boddicker on keys (if there are any major-release records or films from the 1970s and 80s with synthesizers that you enjoyed, chances are that he was involved in some manner or other)."

Knobcon 6 Bugging Out

Published on Sep 11, 2017 7numan7

"This was the final Bugout Bunker performance from Knobcon 6. I (numan7) am playing the Shbobo Shnth (with my back mostly to the camera). Bryce (blz) and Erik (HeWhoWantsJeans) are jamming on Eurorack modular. And someone whose name I didn't catch was running the LZX video synthesis rig (creating the visual patterns on the screen behind us).

Enjoy!"

Bugbrand 1Framer - Groovin' Sync Drone

Published on Apr 5, 2016 7numan7

"This is what my first patch with the new Bugbrand 1-Franne Synthesis Voice (a.k.a. the 1Framer), which arrived this past weekend, wound up becoming after several iterations,

It actually began as some marvelous drum and percussion sounds that later turned into a bunch of shrieking and howling kind of stuff until i decided to try patching the 2nd VCF, configured as high-pass, output into the 2nd and 3rd VCO sync inputs, much of which is captured in a so-called unboxing-video which i haven't yet finished editing).

Anyways, it is a drone-piece,... and the 1Framer is definitely becoming an instant favorite-among-favorites in my personal arsenal of experimental electronic sound-making machinery... Enjoy!"

Wiard Anti-Matter

Published on Feb 16, 2014 7numan7·76 videos

"Watch and listen as my Wiard synthesizer modules sing a tale of anti-matter, particle physics and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, I used two Malekko Wiard Noisering and Anti-Oscillators as well as a Wiard Model GR-352 Dual Borgs for the patch (which is self-playing, other than my flipping one of the Noisering's CLK IN/EXT RATE switch up and down a few times).

Enjoy!"

Metasonix R-System 1 Voice Demo

Published on Sep 6, 2013 7numan7·77 videos

"This is a demo of the Metasonix R-51 (Distortion/VCA), R-53 (Pulser/Ringmod) and R-55 (Thyratron VCO) synthesizer modules, which all use tubes. There are two R-51s, one R-53 and two R-55s being used in this patch.

The R-System is being controlled and processed by a Meng Qi Music 'Cocoquantus' looping delay/sampler + ribbon and antenna controller. The output of the Cocoquantus is being processed by a Knas Ekdahl Moisturizer spring reverb. And the Moisturizer's output is being processed by a Wavemakers 255R dual phase shifter (which is switched on and off throughout the video, so that you can hear how the Metasonix modules sound by themselves without the phaser effect added).

Enjoy!"

Yellow Rollz Of Peace (for Kira)

Published on May 28, 2013 7numan7·74 videos

"This is a recording of a self-playing patch I made with a Meng Qi Music - Ciat Lonbarde Rollz5' electronic instrument.

The Rollz5 is based on diy "paper circuit" that Ciat Lonbarde published a while ago, and is similar to the Plumbutter instrument, but lacks the PB's sequencer (man-with-the-red-steam) and antenna (deerhorn), and comes with a slightly different configuration of filters (ultrasounds) and oscillators (geometric rollz). Meng Qi Music has designed pcb implementation of the Rollz circuits and offered them for sale to diy-instrument builders. The instrument used in this perfomance was built the MQ pcbs.

The sounds the patch is making, as you can probably hear, include sustained droning notes forming chords that pulsate and shift over time, bass and baritone-treble drum-beats (coming from the gong filters pinged by the slower rollz, i think), and high-pitched cymbal like patterns (from the ultrasound filters, i think).

The video patterns are being generated from LZX euroack video synthesis modules that are being modulated by the audio from the Rollz5 via the LZX Audio Frequency Decoder which has a built-in microphone. The video of me patching is actually where I'm slowly taking down the patch, using the recorded sound for this video to modulate more video synthesis patterns, projected on the instrument and my hands this time instead of the wall. Audio from both cameras was mixed with the computer-recorded audio for the soundtrack of this video (you can hear a few ambient noises, such as from patch cords being removed, that were not made by the Rollz5).

This was my first patch with the Rollz5. And I think it came out very, very nice (especially considering how I didn't really have a clue what I was doing, at first anyways). Throughout the was thinking of a young lady who I have never met named Kira. She is daughter of the founder of an interet forum that I frequent and has been ill in the hospital with life-threatening illness for the past few weeks. This video goes out to her (and all the other people in the hospital, or wherever they are, who need to rest and get well again so that they can proceed with their lives).

Enjoy!"

Dreamwalking - CL Tetrax Solo 1

Published on Mar 27, 2013 7numan7·73 videos

"This is my first recording of the amazing Ciat Lonbarde Tetrax instrument (or any CL instrument for that matter - I'm usually having too much fun when I play them to record anything). You play it by pressing wooden barres. And it can be played with a variety of performance gestures (such as the violin-like "cad. It is easier to tune than the older version (Tetrazzi) and can be patched with banana cables, as I demonstrate here.

Enjoy!"

Metasonix S-2000 Demo 3

Published on Feb 17, 2013 7numan7·72 videos

"This is the Metasonix S-2000 tube-synthesizer being controlled by a MakeNoise Rene modular sequencer. It's pretty much just a simple bass note sequence, where the S-2000's ribbon is gating the Rene's Y-clock input as well (the X-clock is being gated by a cycling Maths module's EOR pulse output), so that I can control when the "verse" or "part" changes. You can hear me tweaking various controls on the S-2000 to add harmonics and modulation that add some harmony and rhythm to the sequence.

Enjoy!"

Licorice... (S-2000 Initial Impressions)

Published on Feb 2, 2013 7numan7·70 videos

"This is a quick demo of the new Metasonix S-2000 tube synthesizer. It is similar to the R-54 and R-51 Eurorack modules. But the modulation paths are hard-wired to built-in AD/AR envelope generators. And control is nominally with a ribbon attached to the front panel, although there are also CV and Gate inputs. But I really, really like it because it sounds really cool and gnarly, in ways only that wien-bridge tube oscillators and pentode tube vcas can afaik, without having to patch anyhing up like I normally would in a modular situation.... And I can wear it around my neck and play it like a guitar!

Enjoy!"

Metasonix S-2000 Demo 2
Published on Feb 5, 2013

"This is my second demonstration video of the Metasonix S-2000 tube synthesizer instrument.... It's mostly a bit of noodling around I did with the S-2000 and some guitar pedals (wah pedal, a delay and a couple of others)... As you can see, I find this to be a very, very fun instrument, and quite easy to learn how to play (fwiw, both this and the previous video were shot within few hours apart from each other on my first day of having an S-2000).

Enjoy!"

Three Five Five Metasonix

Published on Apr 15, 2012 7numan7·70 videos

"An "outdoor performance" featuring 3 Metasonix R55 Thyratron VCOs being controlled by a MakeNoise Pressure Points / Brains sequencer that I am playing like a keyboard (with some of the steps triggering chords, and others playing all 3 VCOs in unison), with the Touch-Gate output from the Brains triggering a Circuit Abbey ADSR Jr envelope generator (that modulates a Metasonix R51 patched as a VCA and triggers another ADSR Jr that modulates a Metasonix R52 VCF).

Enjoy!"

QMMG Resonator Patch & QMMG Hooters

Uploaded on Jul 9, 2011 7numan7·70 videos

"This tutorial video features 2 QMMGs patched as a "resonator" (like those odd silver guitars with names like "dobro" and "tricone"). I play guitar, a synth sequence and (attempt to) sing through it.

In some ways, it isn't quite as precise as the Cwejman RES-4 (a special-purpose module dedicated to resonator-like behavior). But, the QMMGs can be patched in ways the RES-4 simply can't (for example, you can patch in individual feedback amount CVs, for both the high- and low-pass sides of the band-pass-gate/filter with the QMMG patch - you can't do anything even close to that with RES-4 - but then again, most people won't need to).

Enjoy (and it's too bad MakeNoise stopped making QMMGs)!"

QMMG Hooters
Uploaded on Jul 10, 2011

"The video shows a somewhat aleatoric performance using feedback from the QMMG Resonator patch with a guitar and a microphone plugged in (via a Doepfer A138M Matrix Mixer), but neither being played or sung through.

I vary the levels of mic and guitar feedback going into the QMMGs by twisting the knobs on the A138M. And I vary the tuned-pitch and feedback amount offsets by twisting the QMMG knobs. I also am using the iTunes visualization of the soundtrack for the kaleidoscope video patterns. And I included footage of some burrowing owls that live around a nearby airport.

Enjoy!"
