1. O Z Hall: Zebra Synth
Dive into the enthralling world of synthesizers and witness O Z Hall's outstanding entry, "Zebra Synth", in the Synthesizers.com Composition Contest. Crafted with unparalleled precision and technique, this remarkable composition combines an array of captivating sounds that will take you on a breathtaking sonic journey.

Hall masterfully utilizes three distinctive patches in "Zebra Synth" to create an immersive soundscape. The first patch features a drone made using a Q106A oscillator, which is meticulously processed by a wave folder. Another oscillator, intertwined with linear FM from the wavefolder output, results in a fascinating "clang tone" that is beautifully amplified by a digital reverb.

In the second patch, a sequenced voice is artfully produced by employing two re-paneled Q106 oscillators. One output is channeled into the input of the linear FM, which subsequently provides intriguing timbral variations. The Q119A sequencer's 3rd row masterfully controls a Ratchet effect, adding even further depth to the composition. An expertly-applied digital delay effect enriches the output of this patch.

Lastly, the lead voice is ingeniously designed using the Q169 Dual Oscillator with Pulse Width modulation. O Z Hall skillfully manipulates the 24db/oct low pass filter in real-time to deliver an electrifying performance. The extended digital delay effect ties the entire sonic experience together.
O Z Hall's "Zebra Synth" draws its arsenal of modular synthesis tools from the Synthesizers.com catalog, including Q106, Q106A, Q119A, Q171, Q148, Q127, Q169, Q168, Q167, Q114, Q174, and Q175A modules. The creative process has been meticulously executed, showcasing how these modules can be combined to engineer a rich and dynamic sound adventure.

"THIS ISLAND ARP" (1955) ARP2600 PATCH TUTORIAL BY KIP KUBIN

"THIS ISLAND ARP" (1955) ARP2600 PATCH TUTORIAL BY KIP KUBIN from Kip Kubin on Vimeo.

"This patch is a tribute to the sound designers of yesteryear. Those artists who gave sound to outer space in the 1950 Sci-Fi hey day of space travel films like Forbidden Planet or this Island Earth with their synthesizers and tape machines.

One key to the patch is the electronic switch this allows every other pulse to enter the reverb tank allowing for a music note complex tonal experience.

For variations adjust the LFO's for all kinds of sound variations the S&H will take care oft the pitches but you can always adjust VCO1 if you'd like.

Add tape delay if you have it and you're back in the 1950's making noise for martians."

"SEQUENCE FOR ALAN AND DENNIS" ARP2600 PATCH TUTORIAL BY KIP KUBIN

"SEQUENCE FOR ALAN AND DENNIS" ARP2600 PATCH TUTORIAL BY KIP KUBIN from Kip Kubin on Vimeo.

"I wanted to make a 'thank you' patch for the creators of the ARP2600 Alan Pearlman and Dennis Colin . The idea was simple, just use the ARP and try to create a new tone and Rhythm not typical of a standard sequence from the clocked output of the S/H generator.

I did cheat and use TipTop Audio stackable patch cables.

I hope they like the patch.

"SPACE DRONE" ARP 2600 & MAKE NOISE RENE

"SPACE DRONE" ARP 2600 & MAKE NOISE RENE PATCH TUTORIAL BY KIP KUBIN from Kip Kubin on Vimeo.

"I'll admit some some envy of those at NAMM making amazing drones and sequences on the Buchla Music Easel. so I decided to do my best with the Arp2600 and my Make Noise Rene. I'll also admit the the Rene is so good at what it does I barely touched it and out came some of the best music I've heard from my Arp."

"ARP2-D2" ARP2600 PATCH TUTORIAL BY KIP KUBIN

"ARP2-D2" ARP2600 PATCH TUTORIAL BY KIP KUBIN from Kip Kubin on Vimeo.

"With all the excitement around the announcement of JJ Abrams directing and his Bad Robot team helping out on the upcoming Star Wars episode 7 I decided to try do my best Ben Burtt impression and attempt an R2-D2 robot patch.

You will need Tiptop Audio stackable patch cables to make the patch. If you don't have any yet, go buy some, they are SO important to bring new dimensions to your patches.

PS: Sorry for the bad pun name."

"LULLABY FOR TOMITA" ARP2600 PATCH TUTORIAL BY KIP KUBIN

"LULLABY FOR TOMITA" ARP2600 PATCH TUTORIAL BY KIP KUBIN from Kip Kubin on Vimeo.

"I've always loved Tomita...most do. To me one of the hardest sounds to emulate is voice and choir of which he is master.

So I set out to create a solo voice that could be 'played' on the ARP with no keyboard or sequencer and this is what I came up with."

"SOUNDS FOR A TRS-80" ARP2600 & MAKE NOISE RENE PATCH TUTORIAL

"SOUNDS FOR A TRS-80" ARP2600 & MAKE NOISE RENE PATCH TUTORIAL from Kip Kubin on Vimeo.

"I was trying to stretch my use of voltage inverters to create more interesting and varied timbres in a sequence using Ring Mod as the sound source.

I also wanted to use the Rene as a playable instrument and allow the grace notes to be random. I'm still wrapping my head around the RENE but it's already has opened me up to new ways of using sequencers in my work."

"SEQUENCE FOR EDUARD" ARP2600 + MAKE NOISE RENE PATCH TUTORIAL

"SEQUENCE FOR EDUARD" ARP2600 + MAKE NOISE RENE PATCH TUTORIAL from Kip Kubin on Vimeo.

"While learning my new white face Make Noise Rene I stumbled on this Ring Mod patch with some extra FM mods and decided to make a tutorial for those with Arp2600's or modules that would allow emulation.

As I was patching he sound drifted into a cross between something you'd hear on Solaris and Stalker - an ARP2600 version of what Eduard Artemyev did on those Tarkovsky films. Least it sounded that way to me.

Sorry you can't really hearth panning but it's worth the patch.

Thanks to Make Noise and those who helped invent the Rene. It's such a great complement to the ARP2600."

"BUCHLA BONGO" PATCH TUTORIAL USING AN ARP 2600 from Kip Kubin on Vimeo.

"The idea was to create the classic Buchla Bongo patch using My Arp 2600 with no external sequencer or patch cables

NOTE: If you lover the amount of the filter going to the envelope it gets real Raymond Scott real fast."
