Buchla Swinging and Generating Triplets

YouTube Uploaded by dkimcg on Jan 17, 2012

"the 1/4 note sound and the swinging triplet playing sound generated from the same 1/4 note pulse. Based on DougCL's swinging clock tip as demonstrated by 7thDanSound. [this post]

Not a musical statement, mainly a study in swinging and triplets generated from a simple pulse.

I knew you could make triplets without a standard 1/3 divider.
And I thought it was pretty cool to be able to sequence swing and triplets from the 250e. :D

Only problem is I still can't figure out how to keep a tempo and swing a note before the clock without faking it by swinging the previous note way late to fake the early note w/o patching the pendulum's tempo with a quick negative modulation and syncing the pendulum to a master midi clock. Any ideas, if that makes sense?"

Sleepy Time Triplets

YouTube via dkimcg
"I was getting ready for bed and putting away cables from my last video when I started messing around with a drone and using the M28 to add some pulses to the drone. Well, this isn't the drone, it evolved to this marching kind of thing with with some Moogerfooger analog delay. No effects in the computer, just some compression. What you hear is basically what was synthesized. I couldn't stop with Part 1, I started twisting the frequencies at the end of this video, and decided to make a part 2 since the FM sounded so cool. No filtering at all here (except the M13 gates). The M11 Evil Twin was self resonating and FMing OSC1 which was FMing OSC2, as well as running through the Mod/Demod and PlanB ring modulator. just additive synthesis here and in part 2. :)"

Sleepy Time Triplets Pt.2
"bunch of FM synthesis frequency knob twisting. No filters, just additive synthesis except the M13 gate. Mod/Demod, M25 Audio processor doing waveshaping and ring mod, both M15s FMing and sending audio to the mod/demod then through the ring modulator, and into the wave shaper.
Not super musical, somewhat abrasive if you don't like raw unfiltered waveforms. I need more oscillators..."

How to Make Plucks N Other Fun PlanB Sounds

YouTube via dkimcg
"A few people asked about my last patch, so I made this to show how to get that plucky Buchla type of sound with the PlanB modules. I start from scratch, make some mistakes, but it comes out ok in the end."

Evolver's Plan B Revolution

YouTube via dkimcg
"My new PlanB modular synthesizer sequenced by the FutureRetro Revolution which also filters the DSI Evolver and sequences the Jomox MBase01 kick. I just got the Plan B modular, so I'm still getting the hang of it. I play around mostly with the Model 10 Polyphonic Envelope Generator here, with some other tweaks on the Plan B filters and gate. Some analog Moogerfooger delay, Space Echo, TResonator, blah blah blah and reverb in the computer.

Stereo Version here:

ZOe-258v 3 Operator Analog FM

YouTube via dkimcg | Feb 27, 2011 |

"Figured out a way to record video and audio at once, not the best quality, but saves me time processing and converting.

bottom of 258v FMs top of 258V which FMs the ZOe. The bottom output also FMs the 291e and the ZOe pulse out provides the PWM wave for the filter. FM index, and morph modulations from 281e processed through 256e, and a slewed pulse from the 250e. Patch looks more complicated than it is because of the cascading envelopes the 281e is setup for. The 258e is only a control oscillator, most the sound is coming from the ZOe and the 291e colors and resonates the ZOe square."

advanced Loading... PlanB Model 17 Triple Event Timer Outputs

YouTube via dkimcg
"Not too complete, the negative triggers don't seem to be firing anything in this patch (probably pulsing to a filter or something while quiet), but you can see the or outputs which look like they could be used for a backbeat drone or trigger another note/event.

See the other video for a better idea of what the triple event timer can do. I really like this thing a lot now that I know what it can do. No stereo really, it's a raw recording with no delay or anything, just the two gates mixed together in mono."

Polyrhythmic Buchla from Scratch

YouTube via dkimcg | August 16, 2010

"4 on 5 poly-rhythmic patch from scratch.
Only things I planned ahead of time were the 4 and 5 step sequences in the TetraMaps.

Too much reverb yet again, and a couple glitches from when I touched my touchplate by accident off screen. Doh."

Another Crappy Modular Video

YouTube via dkimcg
"This was from a patch yesterday. Using the Harvestman VCF to generate a tone, which is then F'ed up in the Tyme Sefari, which adds a really nice fatness to the original tone. So, all audio by the Harvestman, All control by PlanB M28, M17, M10,M24, etc. Not a musical thing, just figuring out the Tyme Sefari for shaping tone."

PlanB Model 17 Triple Event Timer gearporn

YouTube via dkimcg
"More experimentation with the triple event timer. Turns out it's really really nice for making little tribal sounding resonant drum patterns when used with the Model 13 Dual Timbral Gate. You can really hear the vactrols here since the gates are literally just open or closed with a pulse. That resonant almost membrane type sound is the slowness of the vactrols. Sweet huh? So in this patch the Model 10 was free to do other stuff, but I think it was just cycling back into the control processor for the second timing on the right side. Ah, that loudness in levels must have been feedback. Sorry about the levels being way too loud at parts, I think the voltages got too high too. I need a voltmeter in the rack...

YOu can see pretty clearly what the Model 17 does with the LFO feeding into it going slow. The timer's positive direction send out one set of pulses to the 1st gate, the negative direction send out a 2nd set of pulses to the 2nd gate giving you two voices played with one LFO timing everything out. 6 triggers events total, so you can do some nifty timing stuff with it. See the other video for a better idea on the outbuts at the lower section."

TetraMaps Basic

YouTube via dkimcg
"TetraMaps synced to midi clock from the Machinedrum. TetraMaps sequences Flame Talking Synth and the modular synth. Not very musically interesting, but a simple demonstration of the TetraMaps used with midi and analog CV gear. Space Echo thrown in at end for fun."

010609pm

YouTube via dkimcg
"Experiment in using PlanB Model 10 Polyphonic Envelopes (4 of em) as a compositional tool. The first M10 is at a super long cycle, and 2 more long envelopes that control many many things. The video is about 3 cycles of the longest Model 10 with tweaks here n there, and the Analogue Systems Echo module gong between the three time modes manually (I flick a switch)."

258v waveforms

YouTube Uploaded by dkimcg on Jan 25, 2012

Buchla 250e Eats MIDI

YouTube Uploaded by dkimcg on Apr 26, 2011

Jomox XBase 888 vs Cwejman

YouTube via dkimcg
"My first experiment with the 888 running through the modular. It's being processed through a bunch of Cwejman modules assisted by an Aanalogue Systems Inverter/Preamp and a PlanB M9 mixer.
The most drastic effect is the FSH-1, the Cwejman Frequency Shifter on the kick. The other effects are the filter running through the ringmod and the phaser on the claps."
