Dem Jamz 3: MT32 Mania!

Published on Nov 20, 2012 by elmosexwhistle

"It's time for more Jamz! This video is based around the Roland MT32, a little black box from the mid 80's. It's the little brother of the Roland D50, is available for PEANUTS on ebay, (although that might change as soon as enough people see this video...) and, although often seen as a TOY or a cheap PC sound expander (lots of video games utilized it), it's capable of some brilliant sounds. So sit back and see what a £30 synth can do in the hands of a madman with a free DAW!

Songs:

- Dixieland Distractions
- Angsty Goth Song
- Monkey Island (Megamonkey Mix)
- Dub Vader (Skrillmaus Mix)
- Hoping & Waiting
- Dead End

Thanks to:

Antonio Roberts (hellocatfood) for the glitchy visuals.

Dem Jamz 2: Mono/Poly Madness! by Alex Juno

YouTube Published on Apr 22, 2012 by elmosexwhistle

"The Korg Mono/Poly debuted in 1981 and is a powerful and classic mono-synth. With a great self-oscillating Korg 24dB filter, 4 versatile VCO's and nice envelopes it creates that classic Korg sound. With a number of other little tricks up it's sleeve, including a Paraphonic mode, Arpeggiator, Sync, Cross-mod, LFO rate abuse and the like, it's timbral range can be pushed even further!

In this video i've put together a number of tracks using only the Mono/Poly, a CV interface, some drum samples, and the odd subtle plugin effect. There's everything from dirty dirty Techno basses & cutting hoover sounds, to funky retro leads and synth brass, to pure insanity care of Mr LFO and Mr Xmod.

Track Listing:

1. New Musical Revolution (Mono/Poly Mix) - Alex Juno
2. Dirty MP Beatz - Alex Juno
3. I Am Rubber, You are a Glue Sniffer - Alex Juno
4. Spacefunker - Alex Juno

So come and sit around while i spit my tripe, i got more flow than a cistern pipe!

PS Sorry i didn't use the arpeggiator on the machine, i'll get around to it soon :)"

Dem Poly 800 Jamz Muthafu**s! By Alex Juno

YouTube Uploaded by elmosexwhistle on Feb 4, 2012
Poly 800 Demo Via Elmo Sexwhistle
"The Korg Poly 800 is a much maligned synth, yes, it's built out of cardboard, yes, the parameter resolution is about 5-bit, yes, it only has 1 filter for all 8 dco's, but the thing sounds beautiful! Some folks seem to think that it sounds like a $10 casio but i hope in my video demo that i can prove otherwise :)

All sounds in this video, except for the drums, come from the Poly 800, moderate effects have been used, delay/reverb/distortion, in places, however the chorus is built in to the unit.

If there's any call for it, i'll upload my patches for you fellow Poly 800 owners, just comment that you want the patches and i'll do it :)

Highlights:

- Big Beautiful Digi-Analogue Pads and Polysynth sounds
- Phat moog-style Basses and Leads
- TECHNO MUSSOLINI
- Bullying isn't Cool Kids!
- Roses
- Dirty Techno
- Pimp-ass Dancing
- Stupid facial expressions are optional

Thank You!"

Yamaha AN1x Demo via elmosexwhistle

Cool Yamaha AN1x demo posted by elmosexwhistle on this VSE thread.

"hey fellow synth heads, on this here mp3 file you can hear what kind of sonic madness i've been creating with my an1x these past few months...interestingly there are no external effects (albeit a little treble added to brighten the sound slightly) and a little crossfading to shorten down the track...a load of patches are on this demo, includng melotrons, harpsichords, mad fm shiz and big lush pads...also alot of points where you'll be thinking *how the hell did he do that on a 4osc synth?* i don't even know myself sometimes"

Crap 2600

Title link takes you to a predominantly Atari 2600 track. Via elmosexwhistle on this VSE post:

"Here's my track with a lot of atari 2600 sounds on, and a few parts from the unknown64 vst plugin to beef it up and fill it out...it's called "crap 2600". I love the atari's snare drums, theyre so chunky and gratifying!"

Yamaha AN1X Samples

Title link takes you to samples via elmosexwhistle on this VSE thread. Also backed up here.

What always fascinated me about the AN1X is that you can hear Yamaha CS80 in it. More so than any other VA. Yet, I don't remember Yamaha ever touting that it had that character to it. My guess is that they did not want to box it in. Going through this set, I'm amazed at the diverse reange of sounds this synth is capable of. BTW, check out the nes triangle mp3 in the set for a treat. Another fascinating bit about the AN1X was that the UK Yamaha release the Roland JP8000 factory presets for it. I A/Bed the AN1X to a JP8000 and the presets were spot on for the most part. It was pretty amazing.
